Brighter than Sunshine: The Face Shop Brightening Cleansing Bar

Have you ever tried a face wash that you thought was working in making your face feel sqeaky clean, when in reality your face feels a bit tight? To be honest, I always thought my face was supposed to have this strong "clean" feeling, but I soon came to realize that I was feeling my face grow tight after rinsing off the excess cleanser. Apparently, this "tight" feeling is caused by a buildup of residue left along the surface of the skin.

So, as I quickly learned what my current face washes were doing to my skin, I was quick to find another alternative.

Isn't the packaging cute?

On the label:
Nature Garden Cleansing Bar - Brightening Rice

This HANDMADE BAR provides gentle and effective cleaning for everyday use. It is mild enough as a gentle facial cleanser and is good for even dehydrated skin.

For the "rice" that has been infused within, it is well-known for its brightening ability. It helps revitalize cells while also brightening the overall skin tone.

My thoughts: At first use, I fell in love with this bar soap. But to be honest, I was a bit hesitant on using a bar of soap on my face since I'm used to that feeling that normal Zest bars give after use. The SA at the Face Shop recommended this rice bar for a good brightening effect. I took her word for it since I was interested in trying one out since they smelled so lovely.

Since it is a bar of soap, a clean wet hand with one or to rotations of the bar gives more than enough soap to cleanse the entire face. It's very light and leaves my skin very clean, and not tight at all. And the main perk for me is the scent. If you are one who does not like scents, this facial bar soap would not be up your alley. I enjoy the scent a lot, as I sniffed my face for the longest time during my first few uses (as strange as that might sound...lol). So clean and fresh, can't get enough! Oh, and isn't it great when products do what they claim to do. My face is always "brightened" after using this in the morning/nights. Definitely a pick me up for those tough mornings and soothing nights.

The other main reason why I enjoy this is that it will last me a very VERY long time. After using this and comparing it to my liquid face washes, I realized that I was using so much more product then needed. The only bad (or inconvenient) aspect would be that storage is a pain. It's not as "sanitary" as a tubed cleanser, but to me, I think the positives out weigh the negatives completely.

The location near where I am still is a bit far, so every time I visit, I try to stock up on new and favorite products. If you get a chance to try one of these cleansing bars out, please do! Or even just to smell them, they're worth the stop. I'm looking forward to trying some of the other ones...though it may be a while until I even start to break down the bar I have.

Available at The Face Shop locations and retails for around $4 per bar. Not bad, right?

  9. That's interesting. I've never tried bar soaps on my face before either, though I know this is made specially for the face. I used to use a facial cleanser that made my face tight, too. Realized that wasn't right and quickly switched and also upped my moisturising efforts hehe

  11. I Love using soap bars instead of liquids too! I have been using soaps for like 3 years now.. I highly recommend using a bubble net - it's less drying, a lot of fun and softer on the skin :) This rice one sounds really ncie!

  14. Haha. The Face Shop is a Korean make-up skincare brand. There's a location in downtown LA ktown off of 6th St.! If you're ever in that area, go check them out. :]

  15. I never did either prior to trying this one and boy was it almost at the status of "life changing" (but not as extreme...lol). Ooh, which face wash are you using now? Ah yes, moisturizing! I sometimes get so lazy that I don't even do it...so bad. :3

  18. Wow $4! A bargain! The only soap bars Ive ever used to clean my face were those clinique ones which were £11 each. A bit more expensive, and they didn't do anything! Since then have moved far far away from bar cleansers! I actually use an oil cleanser followed by a normal liquid cleanser these days to get my make-up off XD

I've never tried antyhing from face shop. We have them in Shanghai though, and my mum bought a whole load of their facemasks when she was in korea. Maybe I'll ask her to bring them....

  19. That was me too before trying this soap bar. Now, I don't know how I could ever go back! (At least for now..XD)

  21. Such a bargain, right?? Ah, I want to try a oil cleanser to take off my make up. I usually use the bi-layer ones for eye make-up and then finish it off with a make-up sheet remover and then my bar of soap. Now that I think about it, maybe an oil cleanser would help eliminate the need the make-up removers sheets. lol.

Ah~ you should. ^^ But I think I like the Face Shop's skin care line the best out of everything they have there. :]

  23. Oooh! So this is what a bubble net is. I wonder if they have something like this in here in the Japanese markets. I will look into them the next time I visit. I want to have that もちもち feeling too. ^^ Thank you for the info!! ^^
