LIFE AS I KNOW IT

"Oh, my hair!" Current favs & misses.

For as long as I can remember, I've always had the most trouble finding the perfect shampoo and condition combination for my hair. I have straight and fairly flat, thin hair that often gets oily throughout the day. It wasn't until a few years ago that the idea of "washing your hair everyday" turned out to be a negative one, as it washes away the "natural oils." I guess that's what blogger and youtube is for!

So, today's post will be featuring two hits and two misses that I have tried on my specific hair type.

Tsubaki Shining Shampoo, Tsubaki Damage Care Conditioner, Organix Renewing Moroccan Argan Oil Conditioner, John Freida Root Awaking Shampoo for Dry Hair

The first type of results I look for in a shampoo is if it gives me that "clean" feeling after gently applying all over my whole head of hair (making sure my hair is fully wet). As for conditioners, I look for ones that will actually "condition" and not leave my hair a dried up mess, like some of the ones I've tried in the past. Build up from a conditioner is another thing I hate. When I rinse off, I expect to rinse it all off!

Drug stores are probably the most easy and accessible place to pick up a combo as there is a wide selection of brands and types for every type of hair for a fraction of the cost in comparison to those found in a beauty salon. With all of those commercials that display those long tresses of hair of the women who advertise their said shampoo and conditioner, who doesn't want hair like that? For me, those gimmicks tend to not work for me at all, so I tried out to brands that I would not typically reach for.

Organix Renewing Moroccan Argan Oil Conditioner: I had high hopes for this conditioner, as I've read plenty of good things about the "wonder ingredient" of "argan oil". CVS was having one of those sales at the time, so I figured I'd try it out. (Retails for around $8-$10).

I mean, look at what the bottle says!

Turns out, I was not impressed at all. I felt as it if it left my hair not as conditioned as I'd hope, leaving me with a slight "dried out" feeling after my hair completely dries. I felt like it did strengthen my hair, but the drying feeling just wasn't cutting it. The texture was a bit thick for my liking, making me feel as it was weighing my hair down even more. The one plus from this conditioner would be that it's sulfate free. Oh well, guess I won't be purchasing this one again.

John Frieda Root Awakening Shampoo for Dry Hair: I picked this one up after seeing it on youtube. It seemed to be pretty promising, as it's supposed to have more "natural" ingredients, which also lead me to pick this one up.

Like the Organix conditioner, this shampoo turned out to be a miss for me. It was very drying and possibly cleaning my hair TOO much. The scent of this shampoo is also very herbal like. At first, I thought I wouldn't mind it, but as I continued to use it, I started to not like it even more. I won't be repurchasing this one either...I haven't even finished the tube.

But do not fret. I finally have found a line of hair products that I feel works for my hair! Ah yes, the Shiseido Tsubaki!

Tsubaki Shining Shampoo with Natural Tsubaki Oil: I purchased this after I had first tried the Tsubaki damage care conditioner, and I fell in love with it instantly. I know this may seem farfetched, but I remember using Shiseido shampoo/conditioner back during my last trip to Japan and I really like it then. It's very light and gentle on the hair. It's easy to spread throughout the hair and it really leaves me with a clean head of hair with a very soft, fresh scent. I'm curious of the other Tsubaki shampoos, but I'd definitely repurchase this one. (Got this on sale for $13).

Tsubaki Damage Care Conditioner: I saw this in Jen from FROM HEAD TO TOE's "Current Hair Care Routine" video and wanted to try this out as well! And I'm glad I did. It's a very light conditioner as well, with a consistency of not being as thick, which is a major plus. It has a slight scent, but it's definitely not overbearing. As for what it does for the tips of my hair, it actually conditions them!! I always had trouble conditioners leaving my tips dry, but this one gives them that same, soft texture as the rest of my hair. Yay! I'd also consider repurchasing this as well. (Retails at $8 for the small bottle, but I think the bigger size for around $13 is a better deal).

Overall, I am very pleased with the Shiseido Tsubaki line! And one last major perk would be that I can actually go a day without washing my hair! All this time, I always felt the need to wash my hair every day, but after trying Tsubaki, I don't have to any more. Hair, I hope I have done you right this time.

BTW, this is the longest I've had my hair in a LONG time.
Should I cut it?
Long? Short?
Chop it off?
Style it differently?
What do you guys think? Maybe it's time for a change...

Thanks for reading! If you guys have tried any of these products, let me know!

  1. Great post! I have the same type as you and the Organix and John Freda didn't work for me either. It was such a big waste and now I have a whole bottle sitting in my shower. I wish the Organix formula was better bc it smells so good!

  3. In the past I had the same type of hair than you...but little by little it turns into a non oily hair, I really don't know why...I've tryed the most famous shampoos here in Spain (and I think in the rest of the world too xD) as Herbal Essences, H&S, Fructis and Sunsilk, but none of them cleans my hair at all...so I decided to star using "white labels" and now I'm very happy ith my hair. Anyway, yesterday I had to cut it a little bit because after the summer it was a little bit damaged :(
I love your long hair, but I'm that kind of girl that wants a little bit of volume, and that's what I think...maybe you shoul cut it for getting volume ^^

  6. Although I love to occasionally style my hair different, I am trying to grow my hair out and I so envious of your looong hair. But do what you will. I chopped off my hair, and it has taken me forever to grow it back T_T
I haven't tried the Moroccan oil conditioner or shampoo, but I am using the Organix Brazilian shampoo and Conditioner. So far I really love them because they leave my hair moisturized and clean :D

  9. awesome reviews! ive been really hesitant to try the moroccan argan oil hair products just because of the price... but i think i might pass out on it now after reading your post. my hair is already pretty dry so i wouldnt want to make it any drier!! and keep your hair long! you'll regret it if you cut it too short, i promise! if your hair feels long and heavy, just get layers! especially if youre unsure of getting bangs or not, just ask for short layers in the front to frame your face, and after you see how it looks, you can decide if you want them shorter or not :) i hope that helps!
